Star and Shadow Cinema must quit its Stepney Bank premises on 13 Dec 2014
The Star and Shadow Cinema is a Newcastle institution that has achieved the impossible once.
It now seeks to repeat the feat by relocating to a new building and continuing and building on the work it has done since the day it opened in 2006.
The Star and Shadow Cinema is an entirely volunteer run community enterprise which combines the role of a cinema arts and social centre within a co-operative governance structure that epitomises the values of diversity equality creativity and choice. The Cinema was built on these values as it focused the vitality and energy of volunteers to pull itself up by its bootstraps and create a space in which:

Community
The Star and Shadow has close community ties with local clubs, churches, women’s roller derby, artists, resident groups, universities and schools – in 2012 Hotspur School took over the cinema for a week organising films events and exhibitions.

The Star and Shadow is a vibrant centre for a wide range of arts and community based activities: painting, print, sculpture, photo exhibitions, performance art, theatre, poetry.
Festivals
The Star and Shadow Cinema has hosted many festivals: local film, AV festival, Film and Food festival, Environmental festivals, Short Film, Wunderbar etc.
